In this book MacKenzie struggles to come to grips with the loss of her sister and the resulting blame from her mother. After getting sent to Juvie on a bum-rap drug charge, she finds now the fight is real. Added to that is the paralyzing grief over the loss of her sister.
Wingate’s writing style attracts the teen audience as well as young adults and mothers who find many areas to relate to the story. The insight into both the sibling and parent relationships demonstrates Wingate’s skill in plucking at the reader’s heartstrings. Some sister stories are hard to tell, but vital to hear; sisters are special and so is this YA novel. This tribute to sisterhood shines with heart that flowed from Wingate’s pen and makes it a strongly recommended read for older teens and young adults.
